SLS 3D Printing Services

RapidPrintParts provides industrial Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) 3D printing services for manufacturing functional prototypes, complex durable nylon parts, and low-volume production components. Operating from our facility in Shenzhen, China, our engineering team focuses on producing industrial parts that are built to be used in demanding mechanical environments.

Overview of Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)

SLS is a powder-bed additive manufacturing process that uses a laser to sinter polymer powder layer by layer. Because the unfused powder acts as a natural support structure during the build process, SLS is highly effective for complex geometries, internal channels, and interlocking parts that would be difficult or uneconomical to produce with traditional manufacturing.

We operate 10 dedicated SLS machines in-house, allowing us to support everything from initial engineering validation builds to bridge production and low-volume end-use manufacturing.

Key Process Advantages

  • 1 No support structures required for complex internal geometries
  • 2 High design freedom for interlocking and moving parts
  • 3 Excellent material properties for functional end-use components
  • 4 Scalable from prototyping to low-volume production

SLS Materials

SLS is well-suited for parts requiring durability, impact resistance, and flexibility. Our typical SLS materials include:

PA12 (Nylon 12)

A versatile engineering polymer used for durable mechanical parts, housings, and brackets.

PA11 (Nylon 11)

Provides higher ductility and impact resistance for snap-fits and rugged components.

TPU

An elastomeric material ideal for flexible parts, seals, grips, and vibration dampening components.

Manufacturing Capabilities and Tolerances

Our SLS production is scaled to support industrial hardware development, machinery builds, and MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) requirements.

Typical Build Envelope Up to 380 × 380 × 600 mm
Typical Tolerance References ±0.3 mm or ±0.3%

Note: Guaranteed tolerance requires engineering review based on part geometry, material selection, and post-processing requirements.

Functional Applications

SLS 3D printing is widely utilized by machinery OEMs, robotics integrators, and contract manufacturers to avoid tooling costs and compress lead times.

Robotics and Automation

End-of-arm tooling (EOAT), grippers, sensor brackets, and assembly aids.

Industrial Machinery

Custom guards, ducts, housings, and routing fixtures.

Product Development

Functional prototypes and engineering validation parts (EVT/DVT/PVT).

MRO and Spare Parts

Urgent low-quantity replacements for obsolete or discontinued OEM parts.

Bridge Production

Low-volume end-use parts required before injection molding tooling is completed.

Post-Processing and Finishing

Because SLS parts naturally have a slightly porous and powdery surface finish, we offer multiple secondary operations to meet your operating requirements.

Blasting, sanding, and polishing Vapor smoothing Dyeing and painting Marking Hardware installation (inserts) Tapping and drilling CNC secondary machining for critical mating surfaces

Quality Documentation

Our engineering and quality team supports industrial part sourcing by providing the necessary documentation for your supply chain.

  • First article inspection (FAI)
  • Dimensional inspection reports
  • Material documents
  • Certificates of conformity (CoC)
  • Shipment reports

Request an Engineering Review

Before recommending a process or guaranteeing tolerances, RapidPrintParts evaluates the actual operating requirements of your project. To help us provide an accurate manufacturing plan, please prepare the following inputs for our engineering review:

1. Application The operating environment and what the part is used for.
2. Quantity Current batch size and potential repeat demand.
3. Material Specific polymer requirements (e.g., PA12, TPU).
4. Tolerances Critical dimensions and required fits.
5. Performance Load, temperature, chemical, flame, or ESD requirements.
6. Finish Required surface treatment and post-processing.
7. Timeline Target lead time or project milestone.
8. Files STEP/STP files, accompanied by a 2D drawing highlighting critical features (and NDA requirements if applicable).
